THz spectroscopy on ferroelectric and dielectric materials

Aim: Measure material properties of ferroelectrics and dielectrics in the THz spectral range. Approach: THz time domain spectroscopy in transmission or reflection at various temperatures. Impact: The frequency and damping constant of ferroelectric soft modes can be used to investigate structural phase transitions.


TDS THz time domain transmission spectroscopy: THz pulses are generated by optical rectification of subpicosecond laser pulses in a nonlinear crystal, transmitted through the sample and detected by the electro-optic modulation of probe pulses in another nonlinear crystal.
