Configurationally Locked Polyene Derivatives for Second-Order Nonlinear Optics

Aim: Design and synthesis of chromophores with high molecular nonlinearity and suitable thermal stability for melt crystal growth. Approach: Configurationally locked polyene (CLP) have superior thermal and photochemical stability compared to non-locked polyene compounds. CLP chromophore derivatives are being developed and characterized. Impact: Highly stable nonlinear optical organic crystals with superior processing characteristics for active VLSI photonic devices.
